TONIGHT

i will let go of the bars

the inane chatter in my ears

        the smoke in my eyes

        the mindless pounding music

        and the hangovers that follow

        tonight

i am at peace with  myself

        and the world

not the world we have created

        to cower inside of

        but the world

        that is

        and

        always been

        ah

        people

        like paranoid dogs they bark

        from their towers

        i can hear them

        these hounds of hell

        but

i refuse to open the door

        tonight

i lay on this bed and write

        my confession

        while the hunchback circles

        the town square

        eyes bugged out

        clutching his ears

        screaming

        THE BELLS!!!THE BELLS!!!

        i

        clutch this pen

        as Baudelaire

        might have clutched

        his mistress

        the voice of eaons

             ringing

         inside my head  ##
